PROLOGUE

SBT College of Special Education is an offspring of Anbagam management, which has been doing pioneering work from 1970 to fulfil the long felt need of the society for empowering the Mentally Retarded children. In the process of transformation systematic and scientific approaches have been employed and it was felt that trained personnels are necessary to address their educational needs. So in 1990 the teacher training programme was initiated at the certificate level, as a vicennium project of Anbagam, to meet the desperate need of trained teachers in Special Education, which developed into the Diploma course in 1991 and blossomed as B.Ed. Spl. Course in 1998, which is unique in Tamil Nadu.The Sisters of St. Anne of Tiruchirapalli administer the college and the school.
